Katy Diver Ceramic Artist
I grew up in the Hudson River Valley not far from New York City, in a home filled with books and in a community with many artists, musicians and even circus performers! In my twenties I traveled through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and India, which deeply influenced my life and art. I have been working with clay professionally for over twenty years and have studied widely including at the Art Student's League in New York City, Penland School of Arts and Crafts, and Anderson Ranch. I started and ran Blue Mountain Pottery in West Virginia for 10 years. I moved to Colorado in 1992 and started my clay studio in Longmont that year. I have exhibited my work in many galleries, including Middle Fish in Boulder, Colorado, Appalachiana in Virginia, and the Klay Gallery in New York I have a piece in the permanent collection of the Renfrew Museum in Virginia.I have had several pieces placed in various art in public places for their one year art on loan programs. I enjoy creating pieces that can be sited outdoors. Being strongly committed to bringing art into my community, I helped start and have been a member of the Longmont Studio Tour and East Boulder County Artists for 15 years which allows the public to not only see finished art work but to meet the artists and see their studios which reveal the tools and process of art making. I have done several artist in residencies in the Boulder County school districts working with middle school kids. In addition, for the past 5 years I have had the very rewarding experience of teaching clay garden totem classes in my studio thus exposing many people to the joy of creating in clay. Several of my students have become committed ceramic artists.
