Artists A-G > Karen Bennett

My artwork either begins or ends with a concept. Though an idea may drive the conception of a work, during the artistic process a new idea may develop, and I will modify the direction of the work. I am inspired by fleeting impressions that represent emotions and experiences shared among all people. To investigate a concept, I often work in a series.
I am a fiber artist who integrates other media into my work while at the same time, fully exploring the limits of traditional fiber techniques like photo transfers, deconstructed screen prints, batik, marbling, silk and wool fusion, felting, embroidery, and weaving. I use a variety of presentation modes; 2-D, 3-D and installation because it allows me a full range of ways to investigate an idea.
