WCACO Professional Development Virtual Sessions
I have decided that what I cover in these sessions will NOT require homework BEFORE we meet - I will present the info, participants will have time to do an activity/worksheet that lets them apply the info to their own goals, artist statements, etc. They will then be able to discuss in small groups, and we will end with Q&A and optional coordinating/connecting if anyone wants to form small groups for future collaboration beyond the session. That will be the same structure for all 4 online sessions. I have listed the titles, dates, and descriptions below.
Saturday, Feb 22, 10am - noon
GOAL SETTING
One sentence summary: In this 2 hour virtual meeting we will discuss the benefits of setting goals, identifying the steps needed to reach them, and scheduling tasks on a timeline to get them done.
Longer description: In this 2 hour virtual meeting we will discuss the benefits of setting goals, identifying the steps needed to reach them, and scheduling tasks on a timeline to get them done. Participants will have time to work through this process individually and in small groups. Finally, for those who are interested in being part of an accountability group to help motivate each other beyond this session, I will encourage participants to connect before the session is over.
Saturday, May 3, 10am - noon
ART AS A BUSINESS
One sentence summary: In this 2 hour virtual session, I will talk about the business side of being an artist - taxes, trade names, copyright issues, branding, and more - and provide resources for additional help.
Longer description: In this 2 hour virtual session, I will talk about the business side of being an artist: taxes, trade names, copyright issues, branding, and more. Participants will have time to think about their business model and how that applies to their art practice, and apply some goal setting skills learned in the previous session. I will provide a list of further resources (many of which are free, some are not) for additional advice and workshops in Colorado. For those who are interested in forming business-minded groups beyond this session, I will encourage participants to connect before the session is over.
Saturday, Aug 23, 10am - noon
GETTING ORGANIZED
One sentence summary: In this 2 hour virtual meeting, we will cover how to write an effective artist statement, what should be included in an artist bio, the differences between a CV and a resume, and ideas for creating an inventory system.

Participants will have time to work on some of these documents individually and in small groups. For those who are interested in forming proof-reading groups beyond this session, I will encourage participants to connect before the session is over.

Longer description: In this 2 hour virtual meeting, we will cover all things related to exhibiting: photographing your artwork, applying to art opportunities, pricing artwork, preparing your artwork for display (framing, hanging hardware, labels on the back), press releases, and more. Participants will have time to use the skills they learned in goal setting last February to set goals, identify tasks, and assign deadlines as it relates to exhibiting their work. For those who are interested in forming social groups to attend art openings and art walks together beyond this session, I will encourage participants to connect before the session is over.
